"J'attendrai" was the French version by Rina in 1939 of the Italian song "Tornerai by Dino Olivieri in 1933. The version by Dalida was the first disco song in Europe and made Dalida the first French disco star. It was like a second "Bambino" for her career, a new way, a new popularity, and a new Dalida. The song, realised in 1975 for the album "J'attendrai", was in single in 1976 and was at #1 in France. Dalida decided to make a disco album, Coup de chapeau au passé, containing "J'attendrai" again, but also the following hit, "Besame Mucho" (Embrasse-moi).
"J'attendrai" also played in the German movie "Das Boot" or "The Boat" by Wolfgang Petersen starring Jurgen Prochnow.
It was the favorite of the commander of a German submarine during World War II. The version played in the movie was the one sung by the French singer Rina Ketty in 1939.
"J'attendrai" has also been recorded by Django Reinhardt, the great jazz guitarist, and by Tino Rossi .
